One of the men accused of killing Alan Diaz in March of 2020 has been sentenced.

Oluwatomipe Makanjuola was sentenced to 45 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of murder.

Another man, Oliver Bwalya, was convicted of murder at trial in May and was sentenced to 55 years in prison. Two other men are set for trial later this year.

The shooting happened on North Elmer Street in South Bend.

Diaz was shot during a marijuana purchase.

The defendants reportedly bought pot from Diaz and used some counterfeit money. It’s believed Diaz realized he was ripped off, and when he yelled out, the shots were fired.
