Two people were killed in a high speed crash on I-80/94 in northwestern Indiana.

Indiana State Police troopers were called around 1 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28, to the eastbound lanes between Cline Avenue and Burr Street.

The preliminary investigation shows that a blue 2021 Chevrolet Camaro was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed when it rear-ended a silver 2011 Honda Pilot.

The initial impact pushed the Honda into the median.

The Camaro continued to the right portion of the roadway where it struck a red 2000 Ford Mustang. This second impact pushed the Ford into the outer sound barrier wall located on the right side of the roadway.

The Camaro also struck the outer sound barrier where it burst into flames.

Once the Gary Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire, two individuals were located in the Camaro and were pronounced dead.

Neither the driver of the Honda nor the driver of the Ford sustained any injuries.

The driver of the Ford, Scott Kennedy, 43, of Crown Point, showed signs of impairment at the scene and an O.W.I. investigation was initiated. Kennedy refused to submit to a chemical test and a search warrant for a blood draw was signed by a Lake County Judge. The warrant was executed at Northlake Hospital. Kennedy was then transported to the Lake County Jail where charges are pending.

We need to slow down and look farther ahead, PAY ATTENTION!

You might have to repeat that again, a lot of people missed it because they were too busy on their phones…
