Storms across Indiana on Monday night caused damage and power outages in some places.

“It did cause a lot of tree damage. Trees fell on houses and cars. We were mainly dealing with wind damage. We had a few reports of possible funnel clouds, but nothing has been confirmed in the way of a tornado. Everything looks like straight-line winds,” said Nathan Marsili, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana.

At one point Monday night, Indiana Michigan Power reported roughly 20,000 outages from customers spanning from northern Indiana to southern Michigan. That number has decreased since then.

A scoreboard on the football field of Rochester High School was bent to the ground in Fulton County. An outdoor movie theater’s screen was half “torn out” near Garrett. The owner of the Auburn Garrett Drive-in Theater, says, as a result, its 2022 season is done.

Damaged and downed power lines were also reported in other areas of the state. Some parts of central Indiana received two inches of rain.

“These storms did move along at a decent clip, so not one area didn’t get too much rain. That alleviated some of the flooding concerns in northern Indiana,” said Marsili.

Flood warnings were issued in portions of central Indiana early Tuesday morning. Marsili expects all of Indiana to have a much less eventful week after Tuesday.

“The next few days looks pretty seasonal and dry. Then we’ll just have a brief warmup at the end of the work week, but then temperatures come back down again,” said Marsili.
