An adult and a child were injured when a Dowagiac Union School bus collided with a truck.

The crash happened around 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Atwood Road and Dewey Lake Street.

A 40-year-old Dowagiac man was driving the bus. Four Dowagiac students were on board, as was another bus driver, a 45-year-old Dowagiac man.

The bus driver was traveling south on Atwood Road and Disregarded the stop sign at the intersection of Dewey Lake and Atwood, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

A 26-year-old Dowagiac man was traveling west bound on Dewey Lake Street when his vehicle struck the school bus. That vehicle ran off the roadway into a ditch and the bus ended up on it’s side in the roadway.

All students but one were turned over to their parents at the scene. The fourth student, along with the second bus driver, were transported to Borgess Lee Hospital in Dowagiac for their injuries.

Two cranes were used to pull the bus upright.

The area of Atwood & Dewey Lake was blocked off for more than two hours during the investigation.
