A man who police believe may have been present when Domenik Briggs was shot, has been charged with illegal possession of a machine gun.

It was back on Oct. 6 when South Bend Police responded to Indiana Avenue and Chapin Street on the report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they were re-directed to an address on Indiana Avenue where they found Domenik Briggs with a gunshot wound to the head. He died.

Police received information Eric Richards Jr. may be involved in the homicide.

ABC 57 News reports detectives obtained search warrants for Richards’ social media accounts for Snap Chat and Facebook. After a review of the sites, Richards was charged with one count of possession of a machine gun.

South Bend Police say Richards is no longer considered a suspect in the homicide.
