Benton Harbor house fire leaves one dead

The State Fire Marshal is investigating a deadly house fire in Benton Harbor.

A woman, just one day shy of her 67th birthday lost her life, in the blaze, Monday afternoon, Oct. 24, at the home in the 800 block of LaSalle.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke pouring from the home.

They also found a man in the home through a back door, but he was overcome by smoke. He told the firefighters his wife was still in the home.

Crews got the woman out and the rescue team began life-saving efforts.

She was taken to the Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo where she died.
