Attorney General race in Michigan “Too close to call” at midnight

Michigan Atty. Gen. Dana Nessel addresses the penalties for community threats in the state in a video posted Jan. 4, 2022. (MNC)

Pack your patience for some of the bigger races in the region, including the fight for Attorney General of Michigan.

Officials said Tuesday night that they expect the complete unofficial results “by Wednesday night,” thanks to a recent change in state law.

Some jurisdictions began processing mail ballots two days before the election, and early returns were likely to give a misleading impression of a large advantage favoring Republicans before all of the mail-in ballots were to be counted.

Incumbent Democrat AG Dana Nessel was facing a challenge from Matthew DePerno, a Republican trial lawyer and 2020 election-denier. At midnight, the race was still Too Early To Call, but running close between the two candidates.
