Representative Jim Banks has introduced his first bill in the new Congress.

It’s the Qualified Immunity Act of 2023. The bill would codify clearly established Supreme Court precedent in favor of qualified immunity and its protections, an effort to protect law enforcement officers. Banks originally introduced this legislation in 2020 during the riots and attacks on police.

The legislation is supported by National Fraternal Order of Police, National Association of Police Organizations, the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police and the Indiana State Police Alliance.
