Since Friday, several juveniles have been detained in connection with separate incidents involving firearms and/or shots fired.
On Friday, Feb. 17, just after 3 p.m., South Bend Police were called to the 1100 block of Napier Street on the report of shots fired.
Upon arrival, officers observed an occupied vehicle that had sustained damage consistent with being struck by gunfire.
No injuries were reported.
Through an investigation, a juvenile suspect was identified and detained on charges of Attempted Battery with a Deadly Weapon, Criminal Recklessness and Dangerous Possession of a Firearm.
On Monday, Feb. 20, around 1:45 am, South Bend Police responded to two consecutive ShotSpotter alerts in the 1800 and 1600 blocks of N. Johnson Street.
Officers on patrol nearby spotted two cars speeding away from the area and attempted to perform a traffic stop on one of the vehicles. That vehicle ultimately pulled into a parking lot in the 2300 block of Elwood Avenue and multiple juveniles bailed from the vehicle and fled on foot.
Three juveniles were located and detained on charges related to firearms, drug possession, resisting arrest and possession of stolen property, due to one of the recovered firearms being reported as stolen.
Both cases remain under investigation.

Where are their parents and why don’t they keep a closer eye on their children ? The parents are responsible for their minor children having no rules or curfews. Dysfunctional children become dysfunctional adults later on, good work on poor parenting skills.
Those kids are worth a bigger SSI check every month. What makes you think their parent (singular) cares about them for anything else?
We let our government become the father in too many households, and then lament the inevitable results.
