South Bend firefighters battle blaze at Calvert and Lafayette

South Bend Fire crews were called to a large fire at a commercial building on South Bend’s south side.

The call came in just after 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, regarding the blaze at the corner of Calvert and Lafayette in South Bend.

On arrivial, crews were met with smoke coming from the south and east sides of the building.

Command switched from offensive to defensive operations due to fire and heavy smoke conditions within the building.

South Bend Fire Department had 7 Engines, 3 Trucks, F102, F103, Rescue, F116, Medic 5, M1660, M1661, and F114 on scene for fire operations, safety, and investigation.

No South Bend Firefighters were injured during fire operations.

The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
