Clay High School teacher charged for inappropriate relationship with student

A Clay High School teacher has been charged after prosecutors say he sent a 15-year-old girl texts depicting sexual acts and nude pictures of himself and kissed the girl inside his classroom.
According to court documents, the victim said 25-year-old Caleb Long threatened to expel her if she told anybody. He also texted a 16-year-old student that he was interested in her.
At another point offered “infinite hush money” and an offer to pass his class without doing any homework.
He messaged the teens via TikTok and iMessage.
He’s charged with Dissemination of Matter Harmful to Minors, Child Solicitation and Child Seduction.
The following is the news release from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office:
The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office charged Caleb Long, 25, of South Bend for his role in the dissemination of matter harmful to minors, child solicitation and child seduction involving a student at Clay High School, where he was a teacher.
The victim, her family and the South Bend Community School Corporation have been notified of the charges.
An investigation by the St. Joseph County Special Victims Unit found that a 15-year-old minor received messages from Mr. Long that solicited sexual activity, including nude photographs of Mr. Long, and that Mr. Long engaged in sexual activity with her by kissing the minor.
Following a review of the investigation, the Prosecutor’s Office has charged Mr. Long with the following:
Count I: Dissemination of Matter Harmful to Minors, a level 6 felony
Count II: Child Solicitation, a level 5 felony
Count III: Child Seduction, a level 5 felony
Mr. Long is currently in custody and is expected to be arraigned on March 2, 2023.
The sentencing range for a level 6 felony is six months to two-and-a-half years. The
sentencing range for a level 5 felony is one to six years.
