South Bend Common Council approves tax abatements for Liberty Tower owners looking to build apartments in top floors

The South Bend Common Council has approved tax abatements for the New York-based owners of the Liberty Tower who want to build 90 apartments inside the top floors of the the building.
It’s a nearly $15 million dollar project that also includes meeting rooms, a bar, lounge and venue space for the public to use.
Developers say the apartments should be finished by next summer.
The developers asked for an abatement of $1.3 million dollars over the span of eight years.

Luxury overpriced apartments get a break in not paying properly taxes for 8 years. What about the struggling working class who just got there property taxes increased ? It doesn’t seem like a fair and even system.
