Fire at Highlands Apartments in Elkhart displaces residents

Residents of an entire apartment building have been displaced after a fire destroyed half the units and caused enough damage to shut down the rest.

The Elkhart Fire Department responded to the Highlands Apartments on Saturday, April 15.

All the residents got out safely, only one was treated on-scene for smoke inhalation.

The fire burned through and collapsed part of the roof, which shut off gas, power, and water to the whole building.

The Red Cross is assisting the families that were displaced.
