Fire crews battle house fire on Prairie Street in Elkhart

(Bill Beck/Elkhart Truth)

The Red Cross has been called to help some Elkhart residents whose house caught fire.

Elkhart fire crews were called just after 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, to the 1900 block of Prairie Street.

While en route, crews could see a large plume of black smoke coming from the area of the home. On arrival, they found flames and smoke coming from the southwest corner of the home.

Engine crews quickly deployed fire attack hose lines and began a primary search of the structure.

There was nobody in the home and the fire was under control in about 20 minutes.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
