The City of South Bend is expanding operating hours at its Organic Resources Facility.
The center, located at 4340 Trade Drive, will now be open, weekdays, from 8 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturdays, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. through October 1st.
Residents and businesses can drop off yard waste at the facility for a nominal fee.
The cost of disposing yard waste is $3.65 per cubic yard for residents within South Bend city limits.
For customers outside South Bend city limits, the fee is $11 per cubic yard.
The yard waste is converted into compost and mulch for area residents, which is available free of charge if self-loading, or for a fee if help is needed.
Those self-loading must bring their own shovels and containers to collect the material. Loading of compost and mulch is available at the following rates:
Up to four yards at a time: $5 per cubic yard + tax
More than four yards: $9 per cubic yard for all yards, including the first four + tax
Loading of materials is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. (Note: The last loading time of the day is an hour before close.) No loading is available on Saturdays.

County residents pay taxes just like the “in-city” residents do, yet now it is almost a 400% price hike for us. Do better, South Bend!
