Two Elkhart men arrested in connection with South Carlisle Street shooting death

Two Elkhart men arrested in connection to the death of a man who was shot on South Carlisle Street will be arraigned on Wednesday, May 17.

20-year-old Eduardo Alvarado is charged with murder and a firearm enhancement for his role in the death of 29-year-old Bruno Lira Sanagustin who was shot and killed on Sunday, May 14.

As a result of the same investigation, the Prosecutor’s Office has also charged 20-year-old Ernesto Arellano with assisting a criminal and battery resulting in bodily injury.

According to court documents, Sanagustin  was involved in an altercation with the suspects outside of the El Tecate restaurant.

Video surveillance recovered from the area shows Alvarado shooting the victim at close range, then taking off in a white Dodge Charger.

Arellano admitted helping Alvarado take the hubcaps off the car at a gas station between South Bend and Chicago to make the vehicle less recognizable.

Alvarado also admitted to police that he shot Sanagustin, according to the court documents.
