Deadline met for Orchards Mall plan

A plan for the future of the Orchards Mall in Benton Harbor has met a deadline.

The mall’s owner has a plan for the future of the mall, which was once a shopping giant in Berrien County, and now has very little business surrounded by crumbling parking spaces. WSJM reports only a post office and a single open business remain in the once-thriving space.

A May 26 deadline was set and met for the reinvestment plan from the owner.

After a review, that plan will be shared with the public. Any reinvestment plan is likely to include rezoning, economic development aid, and the support of the community.
