Vote on future of Portage Manor expected during next week’s commissioners’ meeting

The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners convened, this week, to deliberate on the potential transformation of Portage Manor in the days ahead.

Commissioners are contemplating the prospect of transferring ownership to a company known as “A Place for Everyone Incorporated.”

The primary focus of concern for officials is ensuring that the disabled residents receive the necessary care should the ownership change hands.

A vote on the future of Portage Manor is scheduled for June 6.
