Alcohol is believed to be a factor in an off-road vehicle crash that injured three people.

The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, in the 16000 block of Donnell Lake Street in Penn Township when the vehicle, driven by a 34-year-old Vandalia man, went off the roadway, up an embankment, and struck a tree, turning on its side.

A 30-year-old Goshen man who was a passenger on the vehicle was first taken to Memorial Hospital, then later transported to I.U. Hospital in Indianapolis for his injuries.

Two other passengers, a 23-year-old Niles man, and a 24-year-old Elkhart man, were cleared by medical on the scene with minor injuries.

Seat belts were not worn at the time of the crash, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation.
