An Elkhart man was sentenced to several years after a burglary.
It happened on Jan. 7 at 2:45 p.m., when police were called on reports of a burglary in the 100 block of W. Bristol Street.
The owner of the home says that they watched the suspect kick in the door on surveillance cameras.
The suspect, Ryan Miller, 39, was found in the basement, hiding behind a desk. When handcuffed, Miller told officers that his name was Jim Taylor. A check on the systems found that the name and birthdate did not match names in their system. Police say he then admitted to lying about his name.
Police found two bottles of alcohol, worth more than $1,500, that belonged to the homeowner, in Miller’s backpack. They also found a catalytic converter.
The Goshen News reports Miller was sentenced per plea bargain agreement, for burglary, to four years at the IDOC with alternative placement at Elkhart County Community Corrections; battery to one and a half years; intimidation to one and a half years; and theft to one-year probation.
