A number of residents are concerned about an ethanol leak from South Bend Ethanol at the Kankakee River.

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management confirmed the spill and its source, which seeped into Dixon Ditch and likely made its way into the river. WSBT reports that the plant, which sits on South Bend’s southwest side, confirmed the ethanol release along their property.

Water in the river near the ditch was cloudy, devoid of animals, and showed signs of plants in distress last week. South Bend Ethanol is working on a clean-up plan.
