Part of the St. Joseph River in Michigan’s St. Joseph County is under a no-contact advisory after a wastewater spill.
The health advisory comes after a force main break in Three Rivers allowed untreated wastewater to be discharged into the river. Officials believe it happened last Friday night at the Three Rivers Wastewater Treatment Plant near the Broadway Street Bridge.
Residents should avoid any body contact with the river downstream from the bridge through at least Constantine, including recreational activities like kayaking, canoeing, tubing or even fishing. Animals should be kept out of the water there as well, until further notice.
