INDOT launches new safety effort

The Indiana Department of Transportation is launching a new effort to improve safety in work zones.

It’s called Project Greenlight. The program equips highway workers with wearable Guardian Angel safety lights that flash bright green to increase visibility in low-light conditions.

A study by Battelle Memorial Institute says workers wearing the lights with high-visibility vests are 89 percent more visible to drivers. INDOT began piloting the lights in late 2025 and plans to distribute about 375 statewide.

Officials say the added visibility will encourage drivers to slow down and move over, helping protect crews on Indiana roadways.

Good idea. Increase visibility just like the 3rd tail light. Not sure green is the best color as it decreases night vision.
