Berrien Springs man found dead in river near Andrews University

A Berrien Springs man was found dead, in the water, hours after an overturned canoe was discovered in the St. Joseph River near Andrews University.

Berrien Springs Oronoko Township Police were called about the canoe around 8:40 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, but couldn’t find anybody near the canoe.

Nearly six hours later, kayakers found a man’s body near an island down river from the canoe.

The body is that of Timothy Carl Johns, 57, of Berrien Springs.

Police are still investigating the man’s death.
