A 5-year-old boy died after being run over by his father, according to investigators.

It happened around 10;30 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, at Castle Point Apartments.

St. Joseph County Police officers were called to the complex on the report of an unknown problem with a child not breathing.

On arrival, police described the scene as chaotic due to rumors, online and otherwise, that the child was shot. Police, however, say that was not the case.

After an initial investigation, officers discovered that the child’s father, 28, had accidentally run over the child in the parking lot of the apartment playground area.

The child, identified as Jeremiah Holmes  of South Bend, was rushed to the hospital and died a short time later.
