Dead bats washed up at Washington Park Beach

Something unusual washed up at Michigan City’s Washington Park Beach this past weekend.

It was dozens of dead bats.

Beachgoers told WSBT that they went to enjoy the nice weather along the Lake Michigan shoreline, and instead had to move dozens of dead bats away from the water to protect their children.

There has been no word from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources about what might have caused the bats to wash up on the shore, but some residents near the shore speculate that the bats were hunting bugs in the strong winds and ended up in the water.
