Amtrak passengers stranded in South Bend, Sunday night

More than 80 Amtrak passengers were stranded in South Bend on Sunday night.

The passengers, ultimately headed to New York, found themselves more than six hours late getting into Chicago on Saturday night, which caused most of their passengers to miss their connections.

WNDU reports that around 80 of them were put in hotel rooms to compensate for the inconvenience, but Chicago’s hotels were full.

This meant they were bused to spend the night in South Bend. They would then get on the train Sunday night in South Bend — but found the South Bend Amtrak station was closed.

So the busses were brought back to send the passengers back to Chicago to catch the 9:30 Central Time train. Some decided to stay in South Bend and wait for the midnight train.
