Inmate at Berrien County Jail pronounced dead day after arriving in jail

An inmate at the Berrien County Jail died on Tuesday, Aug. 15.

Police say that the inmate, Robert Graves, 40, of Benton Harbor, was found going in and out of consciousness around 10 a.m..

Officials say that CPR was performed on Graves on the way to the hospital. He was pronounced dead at 11:21 a.m..

An autopsy showed a slightly enlarged heart, but no signs of trauma. Graves was brought to the jail on Monday on an OWI with a high BAC, fleeing/eluding police, resisting and obstructing, and a driver’s license violation.
