Since the closing of Portage Manor, St. Joseph County is trying to save money.

So council members, county commissioners, and auditors met to discuss an increase in budgets for departments.

The History Museum asked for their budget to include salaries, repairs, and more. The Liberty Fire Department asked for their budget to cover the cost of building more fire stations.

Other departments asking for budgets were Solid Waste Management, commissioners, auditors, county engineers, and the Hotel/Motel tax board.

ABC 57 news reports that the total budget for St. Joseph County is $21 million.

Hyperinflation will cause higher expenditures to run the county. The property taxes will also be going up next year. Too bad we the people can’t create money out of thin air like our governments do.
