The parents of a 1st grader in Kosciusko County say their child came home from school high, thanks to a piece of candy laced with marijuana.

It happened at the end of last week, when the little girl’s father picked her up from Syracuse Elementary.

While in the car, the child ate a piece of chocolate from a classmate.

Later, at home, the family noticed she wasn’t quite right, and that evening they received a call from the principal.

A classmate had unknowingly brought in choclates laced with marijuana and distributed them to friends.

The girl was taken to a hospital in Warsaw and came home the same night.

The Wawasee Community School Corporation says it was able to identify the students in the situation quickly through the school’s resource officer, and all impacted parents were notified by early evening.

The Superintendent says he’s grateful for the understanding from the parents involved and this incident may result in changes to some policies.
