According to the latest statistics revealed at the South Bend Police Department’s Quarterly Public Safety meeting, gun violence is down in 2023, compared to the same time from in 2022.
From January 1 – August 23, 2023, South Bend experienced a:
*14 percent reduction in gun violence incidents
*44 percent reduction in criminally assaulted shooting victims
*42 percent increase in illicit guns recovered
Chief of Police Scott Ruszkowski largely credits these decreases to improved police staffing levels, allowing for more proactive police work on each shift
While one shooting or shooting victim is one too many, we strive to do our part to keep these numbers trending downward.

Crooked Scott Ruszkowski is talking out of his backside, taking credit for a Constitutional Carry law that was passed statewide that reduced violent crime across the board (except in areas with Soros DAs). A law that Ruszkowski opposed based on his party narrative…
The only reason to go into the city of South Bend, is the airport. A very different and dangerous place after dark.
