The woman in Mishawaka who was stabbed more than a dozen times is now listed in stable condition and is expected to be in the hospital for several more days.

Both of the dogs stabbed are also in stable condition.

The stabbing happened on Friday, Aug. 25, on Oakside Avenue.

The suspect, Caden Rutledge, 16, told police he stabbed his mother and the dogs because he was fighting Satan.

The sheriff’s office says hours after Rutledge was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail, he was hostile and violent and injured two jail staff members who were sent to the ER for treatment of minor injuries.
