Man accused of throwing rock at medflight helicopter, delays emergency transport

LaPorte County Police Dept.
A man was arrested for throwing a rock at a Medflight helicopter that was getting ready to take off with a patient onboard.
It happened on Friday, Sep. 1.
LaPorte County Police say Duane Lowery was in the parking lot of a nearby business and threw a landscaping rock at the copters’ propellors right before it was set to take off.
The patient inside the chopper was being taken to Chicago with a life-threatening head injury.
The rock casued a large dent on one of the propellors.
Officials say the fix will take weeks to complete and cost upward of $100,000.
Lowery stands charged with criminal mischief, resisting law enforcement and public intoxication.
