SMC Bass Fishing Team helps to clean up the St. Joe River

(Alyssa Foster/95.3 MNC)

Some students at Southwestern Michigan College are helping to clean up the environment, specifically a spot where they spend some of their time.

The SMC Bass Fishing Team spent time recently along the mouth of the St. Joseph River at Silver Beach. The team picked up trash, with support from sponsor Mule Fishing of Grand Rapids.

Their coach told WSJM that the team was excited to do something to help the community and support local anglers at the same time, and said they filled around 15 bags of garbage that made the river look a lot better.

The team hopes to make the cleanup an annual event.
