Long UAW strike could have deep impacts in SWMI

If the UAW strike against the Big 3 Automakers lasts for a while, there’s the potential for deep impacts on manufacturers in Southwest Michigan.

The impacts to Michigan’s economy would likely spell big trouble for some parts manufacturers in Berrien, Cass and other counties in the region. That’s according to officials with the Kinexus group, who keep track of the area’s workforce and industry.

WSJM reports the downstream effects could have a bigger impact in our corner of Michigan than in many ofher spots across the country. It could mean a 10-20% decline in sales, and upwards of 500 lost jobs, depending on the length of the strike.

That could mean from $36-$72 million in lost earnings, and possibly up to $3 million in total lost taxes.

The media needs to stop portraying this UAW strike as a good thing. A guy starting on the line running a screw gun makes $89k per year. The UAW is asking for a 40% raise and a 32 hour work week!

Yet the union bosses are decrying corporate greed… Hypocrisy!
