Lawmakers in Michigan are considering requiring panic alarms in schools.
A bill in the state’s House would require schools in the state to have a panic alarm that would communicate directly with law enforcement. Bridge Michigan reports that a companion bill would provide $6.7 million to fund the technology.
But some lawmakers are skeptical about requiring a specific piece of safety tech in the state’s very different school buildings.
Similar laws have been passed in Florida, New Jersey, New York, Tennessee and Texas.
Members of both parties spoke for and against the idea Tuesday in Michigan’s State House, and more study of the possibility is being called for.
