68-year-old man arrested after allegedly beating elderly woman

A 68-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a battery that left an 81-year-old woman with severe injuries.

It was around 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, Sep. 23, when South Bend Police were called to a home in the 1000 block of S. Twyckenham Drive.

Upon arrival, officers located the woman suffering from serious injuries. The suspect, identified as Randy Scott, was also found in the home.

The woman was taken to Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

Scott and the woman had been acquaintances, and police say he was living at the home.

He was arrested on-scene and has been charged with aggravated battery and possession of methamphetamine.

He’s currently being held at the St. Joseph County Jail.
