The chase started around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11, as Mishawaka Police Officers were pursuing a suspect.
St. Joseph County Police got involved when the chase entered their territory. Officers say that after driving the vehicle into the field near Grissom Middle School, the suspect abandoned it and ran off.
Investigators issued a public alert for Dustin Abraham, 37, who was taken into custody at a home in the area of Pear Road and State Road 2.
He’s currently being held at the St. Joseph County Jail.
ORIGINAL STORY: Police are trying to find a suspect who took them on a chase in St. Joseph County. The chase started around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11, as Mishawaka Police Officers were pursuing a suspect involved in a vehicle arson. St. Joseph County Police got involved when the chase entered their territory. Officers say that after driving the vehicle into the field near Grissom Middle School, the suspect abandoned it and ran off. The suspect is identified as Dustin Abraham. St. Joseph County Police released the following information about the pursuit:
At approximately 0139 hrs this morning, a Mishawaka Police officer was parked in the lot of Family Express located at 1702 South Union Street.
A black Honda Accord entered the lot and drove near the officer.
The male driving the Honda was recognized by the officer as Dustin Abraham.
Abraham was known by the officer to have a warrant for his arrest out of St. Joseph County.
When a traffic stop was initiated, Abraham then led the officer and other officers on a pursuit. Mishawaka, St. Joseph County and South Bend Police Departments were all involved in the chase.
The pursuit wound around the southeast side of South Bend, and St. Joseph County. It ultimately ended when the Honda crashed into a drainage ditch near Grissom Middle School. Abraham fled on foot and as of this email is not in custody. The Honda was impounded.
Dustin Abraham is described as a male black, 5’7″ tall and weighing 165 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
If anyone sees Abraham, they are urged to not approach him. People are asked to call their local police agency or 911 to report a sighting.
