Man accused of September shooting death in Elkhart

A man has been accused of the September 21 murder of Tom Moser III. 

The call came in around 3:30 a.m. for reports of gunfire on S. Fifth Street in Elkhart as well as a man running from the scene.

Police were able to locate a man matching the suspect’s description, though he was tased due to refusing to stop. Police found the body of Moser in the entryway of an apartment and determined that he had been shot numerous times.

The Goshen News says Roosevelt Lewis, Jr. was charged with murder, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, criminal recklessness, intimidation and resisting law enforcement.

He was appointed a public defender, and his pretrial conference is scheduled for November 9 with a jury trial scheduled for July 15.
