Three people who escaped house fire being helped by Red Cross

The Red Cross is helping three people who escaped the flames when the home they were living in caught fire.

Crews from thee South Bend Fire Department were called around 9:40 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, to the home in the 100 block of Birdsell Street.

On arrival, they spotted flames and smoke coming from a backside second story window.

Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control.

The residents got out of the home without any injuries. There were no reported injuries to firefighters.

The origin and cause of the fire are currently under investigation.
