There is more information about the woman who died after being struck by a vehicle at Main and Western in downtown South Bend.
On Saturday, Nov. 11, law enforcement were called to the area of Main Street and Western Avenue for a collision involving a car and a pedestrian. The pedestrian was later identified as 33-year-old Kinsaidreay Mae Shepard of South Bend. FACT was then activated per protocol.
According to numerous witnesses, Ms. Shepard had been unresponsive and laying in the road prior to the incident. A driver southbound on Main Street then struck Shepard. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with authorities.
Medical personnel arrived and found that Shepard was dead.
An autopsy was conducted on Monday, November 13th. According to the forensic pathologist, preliminary results indicated that she appeared to have suffered no life-threatening injuries as a result of that collision. Further testing is pending to determine her cause of death.
The crash remains under investigation by the St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team.
