A woman is being charged with a Level 5 felony after a pedestrian she allegedly hit fell unconscious.

The Goshen News says Kaila Himes is being charged with causing serious bodily injury when operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

It happened in January when Himes was driving west on US 20 in Middlebury. A witness said they saw Himes veer off the road, striking a pedestrian at 45 to 55 miles per hour.

Himes was said to have a dazed look on her face, was slurring her speech, and had bloodshot eyes. Police say she agreed to a chemical test which resulted in a positive finding for THC.

The victim suffered a skull fracture, concussion and other injuries. Himes’ jury trial date is July 15.
