DCS report finds 61 children died from abuse, neglect in Indiana in 2022

Last year, 308 child deaths were investigated in Indiana. It was discovered that 61 of those were a result of abuse or neglect.
That’s according to the 2022 Annual Report of Child Abuse and Neglect Fatalities released Friday by the Indiana Department of Child Services.
To break it down further, 17 of those deaths were directly caused by abuse, and 44 deaths were a result of neglect.
It found in the case of abuse, most children were killed with a weapon.
Neglect cases ranged from unsafe sleeping arrangements to driving while intoxicated.
Most children killed were three years old or younger.
