The state House Ways and Means Committee has approved a Republican bill offering public retirees a 13th check every year.

The bill from Representative Bob Cherry would give public retirees including teachers and state workers between $150 and $450 more every year.

The House passed the bill last year, but it died in the Senate.

It still faces an uncertain future despite the 23-to-0 committee vote.
