New bill could result in professional sports team moving to Northwest Indiana

An Indiana State Representative has introduced a bill that could result in a professional sports team moving to North West Indiana.
Democrat Earl Harris Jr. introduced House Bill 1174 which proposes forming a 19-member sports development commission for Northwest Indiana. That commission would look into how north west Indiana could bring a professional sports franchise to Indiana.
“In recent years, northwest Indiana has seen significant infrastructure growth as a result of our work here in the state legislature,” Harris said. “From the Gary/Chicago International Airport to the Gary Hard Rock Casino, and the forthcoming convention center, northwest Indiana is quickly becoming a hub for entertainment and leisure. Sports infrastructure is the obvious next step in attracting more people – and possible sports teams – to our region.”

Great, more tax dollars to buy a nice facility for the sportyball team’s owner and players to get rich off of.

NO THANK YOU. The tax receipts from the economic activity never seem to be enough to cover the expenditures of attracting the team.

Typical D kind of idea: “Our city sucks so lets pay a bunch of grown men to play with a ball!” Rome would be proud, give them bread and circuses, aka welfare and basketball.

I’m sure they’ll be lining up to play for the Gary Grimes.
