Karamo or Hoekstra? MI GOP still divided on who chairs the party

Who’s in charge at the Michigan GOP? Lawsuits continue to fly to try and answer that question.

First came a vote to oust Chair Kristina Karamo, which she refused to acknowledge. Then Karamo sued for trademark infringement to stop any paperwork from the party that she hadn’t been involved in. Karamo’s critics have now sued her, seeking to resolve the conflict.

Now, Bridge Michigan reports that a 50-person faction of the party met on Saturday and voted former U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra to be the new state party chair. The former Congressman and Ambassador to The Netherlands under President Trump told reporters after the vote that they would go to the RNC, present the results, and claim to be the legitimate Republican Party in Michigan.

The RNC has not yet picked a side in the leadership battle in the state, and it’s uncertain just who will be running the political business this year…including the precincts for the 2024 elections.
