A report on Michigan State Troopers suggests that troopers are more likely to pull over Black and Hispanic motorists.

A state police consultant says the department had “an informal quota system” that encouraged officers to patrol urban areas and “ignore” rural ones, which led to more stops of minorities.

Bridge Michigan reports that the report follows a 2022 study which concluded the disparity could be improved with better supervision and didn’t stem from discriminatory policies.

An ACLU attorney calls the report “damning” due to its conclusion that troopers make decisions on where to patrol based on where they thing they will be able to make stops.

Not everyone has the same driving habits. Blaming any numerical disparities on skin color is abysmally stupid.

Of course cops are going to patrol urban areas more than rural ones… THAT’S WHERE THE PEOPLE ARE! Not much point in patrolling an empty road.
