Elkhart woman arrested after being found with stolen handgun, cellphone

Elkhart Police detained a woman found with a stolen handgun and iphone taken from a crash site.
Officers encountered the suspect, Charity Slusser, 38, of Elkhart, late Monday night, Feb. 26, in the 400 block of Waterall Drive.
They ordered her to stop, but she refused and resisted, dropping a syringe, handgun, and iphone in the process. She was taken into custody and resisted officers again at the Elkhart County Jail.
The investigation revealed the handgun and iPhone were reported missing earlier that day by a man involved in a crash.
Slusser was arrested and faces multiple charges including Theft of a Firearm and Battery on a Public Safety Officer.
Her bond was set at $25,000, with the case forwarded to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office for formal charges.
