Notre Dame student, 20, killed after crashing into tree off County Road 8

A University of Notre Dame student was killed in a collision on County Road 8.

The collision happened around 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, when the man was traveling eastbound and left the roadway east of Songbird Way.

The vehicle crashed into a large tree and rolled onto the roof.

The driver, Spencer Vermeule, 20, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Factors that led to the crash are still being investigated.
