Man struck by bullet fired from outside home on State Street in Elkhart

Elkhart Police Department detectives are investigating a shooting with injuries that occurred early Sunday morning, March 3, in the 400 block of State Street in Elkhart.

It was just after 1 a.m. when Elkhart Police officers arrived in the 400 block of State Street in response to a 911 caller reporting a shooting with injuries.  Upon arrival, officers entered a downstairs apartment and rendered first aid to an injured male victim. Medics arrived on scene shortly thereafter. Medics transported the victim, 40 years old, to the hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. The victim has been subsequently treated and released.

The initial investigation indicates that shot(s) fired from outside the residence entered the residence and struck the victim. The suspect involved in this incident was also possibly on foot when the incident occurred.

Elkhart Police Department detectives continue to actively investigate and are asking for the public’s help.
